Late Tip Tuesday: An Apology Script and a Deal For You

It turns out that Two Tip Tuesday sometimes arrives on Wednesdays. Imagine that!

If you're new here, Two Tip Tuesday is where I send one short and sweet parenting strategy for you to try and one red hot resource I think you'll love.

We're late enough. Let's dive in...

1.  A New Way of "Making" Your Kid Say Sorry

If your child is refusing to apologize (super common - it's just a shame response), don't force it.

Instead, ask them, "How would you like to show that you're ready to move on?"

Kids have an easier time showing they're sorry than saying it. You don't need to force your child to apologize. If it's too hard for them to utter the words, don't worry. Play your cards right and your child will eventually develop a moral conscience and his own authentic way of apologizing in due time- I promise!

Moral development is learned, not forced. With guidance, reflection, understanding, and role modeling (they witness your ethical decision-making daily), kids learn naturally to show remorse. You can't command it into existence without your child losing face and rejecting you emotionally.

When it's time for YOU to say sorry, role model these 4 steps. Say:

  1. "I'm sorry I did it."  (Take responsibility - don't hide behind "I'm sorry you got hurt.")

  2.  "How did it make you feel?" (Or make a guess. The point is to care about the impact of the mistake.)

  3. "What can I do to make you feel better?" (Focus on next steps.)

  4. "Do you forgive me?"  (Don't forget this important step! If they say no, honor their no and check back later.

2.  Learn The Boy Mom Method™

The image shows the Boy Mom logo in blue, with the phrase "Raise a Calm, Kind, and Cooperative Boy" above it and "Rachel Sklar" below the logo. The background is a blend of white, gray, and orange.

I stopped promoting my mini-course last year, but a few people have discovered it online recently, so I thought you might want to rediscover it too.

It's never too late or too early to learn The Boy Mom Method™ and it works for girls and dads too!

I'll make you a deal.

If you sign up for the course — it's 47 bucks to learn and implement the method in 5 days — and you want to keep going with it, I'll apply that cost to the next-level program or private session. If not, you'll definitely have gotten your money's worth.

P.S. If you'd rather cut to the chase and get help with your unique situation, I'm offering $97 trial coaching sessions to new clients. All virtual. Super casual.
