Missed my Tuesday newsletter this week? Here it is:
1. Surprise Rewards are Better
Promising rewards in exchange for great behavior works sometimes, especially in the short term, but did you know there's a better way to change behavior in the long term?
Enter: Surprise Rewards!
When kids get a reward they weren't aiming for, they feel proud of themselves for being naturally awesome, which inspires them to keep being awesome - no carrot or stick required. So instead of saying, "If you're good this week, you'll get ice cream on Friday," try saying, "Hey, you had a great week. Let's celebrate with ice cream!!" Watch them puff up with pride and think, "Huh, I guess I am pretty awesome. I'll keep it up!"
Remember to keep it a surprise (as in: not every week )
2. Kids Bowl Free!
Want a free ticket to cool days and fun times? Kids Bowl Free is a national program that lets kids bowl for free all summer. And if you're like me, you'll upgrade to the family pass so parents, babysitters, or grandparents can bowl for a one-time fee.
Okay, see ya next week! And send me your bowling scores. They're probably better than mine.
❤️ Rachel
