How to Balance Work and Parenting with a Parent Coach

When I opened my full-time parent coaching practice, I intended to focus on helping industry executives raise the next generation of leaders. Role modeling a healthy work-life balance while still prioritizing relationships at home felt like a noble cause.

But was I walking the talk?

At the time, I had three boys, a packed calendar, and an ADHD-ish brain constantly bouncing between client sessions, social media marketing, and school pickup. I knew what to do, but I wasn’t always doing it. I was running on caffeine, good intentions, and a low-key sense of guilt that I wasn’t showing up fully - anywhere.

I needed to get realigned with my noble cause and figure out how parent coaching could help me and my clients balance work and parenting - like pros.

For me, that’s what parent coaching is all about. It’s about walking the talk and then making sure my clients do the same.

Why Working Parents Benefit from Coaching

Whether you're a team lead, a freelancer, a lawyer, or running a household full-time, you probably have more balls in the air than you can catch before burning out.

Don’t do it!

Coaching helps you put the juggling balls down for a minute so you can zoom out and see the whole circus. It allows you to refocus on what matters. Not theoretically, but literally.

Parent coaching offers:

  • Clarity about what your child actually needs (and doesn’t), and what actually works (and doesn’t) for your specific child - let’s collect data!

  • Tools to manage transitions to and from school/work, routines that prioritize both efficiency and your values (without making you choose between the two) and strategies to address things like screen-time battles without yelling, cajoling, or throwing your hands up.

  • Mindset shifts that free you from guilt, resentment, or the pressure to do it all.

What It Looks Like in Real Life

Here's how I help working parents navigate both roles without imploding:

1. Design smarter routines

Together, we build rhythms that work for your day-to-day reality - not aspirational ones that fall apart by Thursday. We attend to morning chaos, evening resistance, and sibling battles that otherwise make the future look bleak.

2. Reduce emotional friction

Work stress doesn’t disappear when you walk through the door. Coaching helps you identify your “spillover,” and teach your child to do the same. You’ll hit the reset button on family life and learn to shift gears quickly so you can respond with intention, not reactivity.

3. Preserve your energy

You don’t need to be “on” 24/7 to be a good parent. What time do you go off duty? Parent coaching helps you balance work and parenting by building in recovery time, teaching your child independence, and letting go of perfection.

You Don’t Need a Local Coach

If you’ve searched “parenting coach near me”, you may be surprised to learn that most great coaches work online.

I’ve been coaching working parents remotely since 2010, which means you don’t need to ask for time off,  get in your car, or find childcare. You can hop on a call from your office, your backseat, or your bedroom floor. Some send voice notes between sessions; others hop into a group call on their lunch break.

You Can Be a Great Parent and Do Meaningful Work

I know it’s possible to be a great parent and do meaningful work because I’ve been walking the talk for years.

Since 2019, I’ve been on a mission to change the world one boy at a time through the parent-son relationship. I don’t limit my coaching to executives raising the next generation of leaders. Instead, I focus on how to raise better men.

When parents think they have to choose between showing up for a meaningful job and showing up for their kids, nobody wins.

Coaching is all about creating win-wins. Together, we build systems, habits, and emotional bandwidth that make it possible for you to win at work and at home.

When you make time to balance work and parenting, you also teach your child to do the same. How great is that? Talk about a win-win!

FAQs

Q: Is parent coaching the same as therapy?

Nope. Coaching is focused on present-day parenting and practical solutions. Hire a therapist if you want to process your trauma, unpack your childhood, or work on your relationship with your boss. Hire a coach if you need strategies to balance work and parenting or develop a game plan for dealing with your child’s difficult behaviors.

Q: Can I do coaching even if I work full-time?

Absolutely. Most of my clients are working parents. I use an online booking calendar so you can find a time that works for you. Schedule your private sessions around your meetings and deadlines, not someone else’s. Or better yet, join my Boy Mom Academy and get a mix of asynchronous and live support.

Q: What if I don’t live nearby?

No problem! My coaching practice is 100% online, and many of my clients live in different states or time zones.

Q: How fast will I see results?

It depends, but most parents feel relief within the first few sessions. Small wins often come before big shifts that last through the teenage years and beyond - which is the ultimate goal.

Q: Do you also work with parents of girls? Dads? What ages?

Yes - ages 4 to 18.  The Boy Mom Academy is open to moms of girls and dads, but my private services might be a better fit. Schedule a low cost trial session to get a taste of what it’s like to work with me.
